Older Audi key systems we work on
The early A4 range has one dominant, well-documented fault, and it is often mistaken for a fuel or starting problem.
- On older A4 generations — B5, B6 and B7, roughly 1995 to 2008 — the immobiliser reader coil in the ignition barrel is a well-documented failure point
- The symptom is intermittent starting where the engine fires and then cuts out again after a couple of seconds
- Because the car does start briefly, the fault is easily blamed on something other than the immobiliser
Current Audi models we work on
On the modern range the key itself is only half the job — the car has to be persuaded to accept it.
- Modern Audis use Component Protection, requiring dealer-level or specialist access to pair a replacement key or module
- Current key fobs come in 'High' (Comfort Access) and 'Low' versions
- The two versions are not interchangeable, so the correct one has to be identified before a key is supplied
What happens on the visit
We confirm the model and key version first, then establish whether the fault sits with the key, the reader coil or the pairing side of the system. Keys are cut and coded at your vehicle and tested on lock, unlock and ignition before we leave.
